2017年12月4日上午,受我院易飞副教授邀请,美国西北大学电子工程与计算机科学系SengTiong Ho教授在南五楼613教室开设为期三周的微纳光子学英文公开课。

在南五楼613教室,易飞副教授主持了此次公开课的开课仪式。我院杨振宇教授、孙琪真教授、夏历教授、王健教授、谭旻研究员等参加了开课仪式。从到课人数及人员分布来看,本次课程不仅吸引了光电学院、光电国家实验室、物理学院、电信学院、能源学院、材料学院等多家校内单位的师生积极参与,同时也得到了中国地质大学,江汉大学等单位的师生和一些外国留学生的关注。据登记记录显示,现场听课人数达91人。在第一天的课程中,Ho教授首先介绍了美国大学科研人员的学习方式,传授了如何通过自主学习(Active Learning)的方式,充分掌握每堂英文课程内容的基本方法,然后回顾了电磁学波动方程的基本内容,并回答了同学对内容的疑问。




本次微纳光子学英文公开课将在三周时间内,全英文密集讲授近场成像、电磁超材料、表面等离激元波导器件、微腔激光器等微纳光子学前沿热点领域的原理与技术。本次课程得到了国家外专局高端外国专家项目的资助,由易飞副教授课题组全程助教并形成教学视频与课件。课程内容经过完善后将与光电学院研究生国际化课程“平面光学导论”对接。
报告人简介:
Seng-Tiong Ho received the B.S. degrees in physics and electrical engineering, and M.S. in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1984, and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from MIT in 1989. From 1989 to 1991, he was a Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, New Jersey. In 1991 he joined the faculty of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.Ho has various awards and honors, including Fellow of the Optical Society of America, NSF Young Investigator Award, Newport Research Award of the Optical Society of America, and various invited lectureships.He has published widely and has contributed to various areas including: (1) Semiconductor Photonics: on monolithic photonic device integration, silicon photonics, DWDM chip technology, and III-V device modeling; (2) Nanophotonics: on photonic-wire semiconductor laser, quantum-dot microdisk laser, photonic bandgap structures, and ZnO random laser; (3) Optical Technology: on nonlinear optical devices and fiber-coupling platform; (4) Electro Optics: on self-assembled organic electro-optic modulator and ferroelectric thin-film modulator; and (5) Quantum Optics on non-classical light generation and quantum measurements.So far he has published 150 peer-reviewed journal papers, 178 conference papers including 53 invited talks and 7 book chapters.
