Summary：
Do you know why The Institute of Optics at University of Rochester is called 皇冠上的宝石? I will introduce The Institute of Optics as “A Jewel in the Crown”. On behalf of the Optics Society (OSA) and Optics Letters (OL), I am honored to meet to the students for OSA Student Chapter and Activities, as well as to present some information about OL.
Short biography：
Dr. Xi-Cheng Zhang – Director and Parker Givens Chair at The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, and Distinguished Professor Wuhan National Lab for Optoelectronics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He is a Fellow of AAAS, APS, IEEE, OSA, and SPIE. His recent awards include 2014 International Society of IRMMW-THz Button Prize; 2012 OSA William F. Meggers Award; 2011 IEEE Photonics Society William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award; and 2009 Rensselaer William H. Wiley Award. He holds several professorships in foreign countries, including Distinguished Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China), and Honorable Professor at Moscow University (Russia). Dr. Zhang is the founder of Zomega Terahertz Corp USA. Dr. Zhang has received 28 US patents, authored or co-authored over 300 refereed scientific papers. His h-index is 70, with 24,000 total citation. Dr. Zhang is the newEditor-in-Chief of OSA Optics Letters (2014-2016).
