Biography

Yajie Chen is a Research Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University (NEU) in Boston. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Solid-state Electronics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and his Ph.D. degree in Condensed Matter Physics from Soochow University in China. He came to Northeastern University in 2003 as visiting scientist in the Department of Physics. He was appointed principal research scientist in the Center for Microwave Magnetic Materials and Integrated Circuits at NEU in 2005. Prior to joining NEU, he was an associate professor of physics at Soochow University and the founder of Dongwu Advanced Materials Inc. (China).

He has more than 25 years of experience in the development of electromagnetic materials and devices in both industry and academia. His research interests cover a wide range of materials physics and applications, such as rf and microwave ferrites and planar devices, spintronics materials, magnetocaloric materials, magnetoelectric/multiferroic materials, ferroelectric materials, magnetodielectric materials and miniature multifunctional sensors and actuators, etc.

Dr. Chen had successfully transferred more than 8 products from laboratory R&D to industrial markets and published more than 120 peer-reviewed journal articles. Additionally, he holds 3 the U.S. patents. Dr. Chen serves as the associate director of the Center for Microwave Magnetic Materials and Integrated Circuits at NEU, and the Treasurer/Secretary of IEEE Magnetics Society Boston Chapter.
